Oakville Yoga Practice Helps Reduce Mental Stress.

Oakville Yoga - Denise Pala

If you are looking to Yoga for Stress Release you are in the right place. The journey begins with the physical yoga practice as a means to move stress and become aware of where its roots lie. Your yoga practice will set you on a path to deeper understanding of your inner self, and why we react to certain circumstances and hold onto stress. You will learn how to let go and DE-STRESS making it easier to see  the light of your emotional self. This  is  the purpose and gift of a yoga asana practice.

By beginning a yoga practice , we learn how to reduce mental stress. Through these physical movements  we become aware and centered.  Next, by focusing on our breath, we begin to notice,  and pay attention.  There is a “shift” and “enlightenment” to what is deep in your centre.  The vigorous physical movements or Asana, are meant to create heat and fire… as you go through the “moving meditation” your yoga will burn away more than just physical toxins. It detoxifies our bodies and reduces mental stress.

Through out our life, we develop anchors and emotional and mental patterns that block our  calm, true Self   (or our Spirit).  Your ”centre” or heart  must be released from the body so your soul  becomes pure and can gradually receive a higher and higher awareness.  Being ”open” to  your emotions is one of the keys to the purification process of yoga.  Practicing being  “present and receptive”  will also effortlessly translate into a deeper acceptance of yourself and move you closer to a place of being in your true power.

How do we incorporate this into your practice on the matt?  First, begin to notice the emotions that come up as you go in and out of postures,  and when they do, take a breath and welcome the experience.  Whether you’re in a simple seated position for meditation or in downward dog,  or more intense hip openers like “pigeon” ,  take a breath and welcome the experience.  Keep the mind focused on that sensation and moment, use the sound of your breath to fill your mind.  From this place of observing your emotions, you can then move deeper into seeking understanding, and eventually to release.

Give your body and mind permission to just let go.  Knowing that YOU have control of letting go.  Once you have anchored and accepted the notion of letting go, and release, you are already on the path to transformation. (where the energy shifts on its’ own and new action or choice is possible). Yoga becomes a healing exercise and aids to increase our health and detoxify our bodies. Yoga also has many more health benefits.

Once you  become aware and accept that the emotion is there, go deeper and  explore where it is coming from and why it has set its roots.  By practicing self-acceptance with compassion, and being open to a new understanding, your practice on the matt  can open a world of self realization. As we build the “practice” of being more present, we can then use our yoga practice as a tool to reduce mental stress and live with ease, and joy.
